Strong rumour that Warner Bros. might be selling off their Gaming Studios.
They are also looking to license their IPs.
However, none of them has been confirmed by Warner Bros.
Recently, there have been tons of rumours regarding Warner Bros. Discovery and their gaming studio. Some of them have been going on since last year, and they are quite strong. In today’s blog, we will be getting into the details of whether Warner Bros. is going to sell its gaming studios. This is quite a huge decision on the part of Warner Bros., and there is a lot of speculation going on if they will sell their whole studios. If that is the case, of course, there are tons of gaming companies who are dying to get hold of some part of the studios.
Will Warner Bros. sell off its gaming studios?
This is one of the major confusions right now. Warner Bros has not declared anything officially, but it seems that the rumours are going extremely strong that Warner Bros Discovery will be sold off. The reason for selling the studios has not yet been announced, and we cannot even understand why they have decided to do so. Their games are extremely popular, and many of them have been played many times. We are also not sure if they will be selling off the studios completely or keep a part of it with them.
However, just based on the rumours in 2020, multiple companies have decided to buy the gaming studios. Perhaps with the response from last year, they have decided to go with it this year. When the rumours started to surface, companies like Xbox, Sony, and EA immediately jumped at the opportunity, and let Warner Bros know that they were interested in buying the studios.
There are high chances that they will even sell off their IPs to the studios. However, this is quite speculative, and even if they do sell off their IPs, it would be their loss completely. Selling the intellectual property and their rights would mean that any future profits or revenues generated by the studio would no longer go to Warner Brothers.
However, to go even deeper into this rumour, there have been no new AAA games that have been released recently. This comes off as a strong point in confirming that WB might be seriously thinking about selling off the gaming studios.
What is included in the Warner Brothers Discovery Game Studios?
Here is the list of subsidiaries that come within the studios:
- Avalanche Software (Hogwarts Legacy)
- Portkey Games (Hogwarts Legacy)
- Rocksteady Studios (Batman Arkham, Suicide Squad)
- TT Games (LEGO)
- Monolith Productions (Middle-Earth, F.E.A.R)
- NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat)
- WB Games Boston (F2P and mobile games)
- WB Games Montréal (Batman Arkham, Gotham Knights)
- WB Games New York (Game systems)
- WB Games San Diego
- WB Games San Francisco (mobile games)
Regarding the IP, they might also be looking forward to licencing it to other publishers. All of this is just speculation and rumour at this point, and we are not sure when will happen.
