Emmanuel Macron, France's president, announced today that he wants some of the largest Esports events to be included in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

In an interview with the French technology publication The Big Whale, Macron stated that he wants to make France "THE country of video games," including as a center for both game creation and Esports.

Macron stated that he didn't forget about Esports, which is another field where France excels, with organizations like Team Vitality and Karmine Corp, he said. They have a historic chance in this regard: the 2024 Olympic Games. It is up to them to seize this opportunity to create a link between the two world Olympiads by hosting the year's most important sporting events: a [CS: GO] Major, the League of Legends World Championships, and the Dota 2 International. If the French put their faith in him, he would get to work as soon as he was chosen. This is also a result of France's influence.

The League Worlds group stage was held in Paris in 2015, and the Worlds finals were held in Accor Arena in 2019, with FunPlus Phoenix defeating European powerhouse G2 Esports to win the title. Although the city's most popular football club, Paris Saint-Germain F.C., has a collaboration with Chinese Esports company LGD Gaming that has delivered two second-place results for PSG, the French capital has yet to host a CS:GO major or The International. In 2018 and 2021, LGD will be at The International.

Macron is running for president of France in 2022, which may lead some to conclude that his stated goal to bring Esports and its key events towards the 2024 Olympics is nothing but a set of perhaps unachievable campaign promises. The Frenchman, who was elected in May 2017, is in the second round of the presidential race against Marine Le Pen.
