These days, with more advancements in technology, people want to get into the technical field more than anything. One of the most lucrative technological fields is the gaming industry. Whether you get in as a designer, animator, programmer, or anything else, if you get into a good gaming company or your game manages to take off, you will be getting paid quite a large amount. Though you might have to struggl.e to get into that position, baby steps are always important. Hence, in today’s blog, we will be getting into all the courses in gaming, and where you can take them. This will help you to understand what you want to do in the future.
Courses in Gaming For Bachelors
We will start with the courses you can get into if you are looking forward to completing your graduation:
B.Sc. in Animation & Gaming
As the name suggests, you will be doing a Bachelor of Science in Animation and Gaming. That means you will be mostly focused on the creativity and the technicalities of the front end of the game. You will be taught how to make the game look more aesthetic and pleasing. Or how well the game can be modified to fit into the story mode. There would not be any hardcore programming that you would have to do. As previously stated, you will be more concerned with the animation and feel of the game than with how the game will work or proceed.
B.Sc. in Animation, Game Design and Development
This is one of the best courses you can do if you are looking forward to getting into the industry with as many skills as possible. If possible, we would recommend that you get into this course. In this course, you will also have to have good knowledge of coding, and computer languages. You will be dealing with the development, which means you will have to work on the back end of the game too. Technically, this means you'll be learning about animation, game design, and even creating your own games from scratch. All of this together would mean that you get to learn how a game can be created from the basics.
B.A. in Animation & Computer Graphics
Those who did not have any science subjects in their high school courses can also get into the gaming industry. You can get a B.A. in Animation and Computer Graphics, which will be quite similar to the BSC degree. However, it is always recommended to go for the B.Sc degree, as that gives you a better position when companies are hiring. However, either way, you will be taught the same thing in both degrees. Though this is what should happen, it might vary from college to college.
B.A. in Digital Filmmaking & Animation
This degree will make you learn more about the portrayal of the game than the coding part. You will be learning more about how you can depict the narrative better, or what movements will look good in a certain scene of the game. This is more of a digital filmmaking course than a proper gaming course. However, this does not mean that the degree is useless in the gaming arena. A lot of companies look for people who have that filmmaking eye, to make their games better and give the narrative more depth.
B.Sc. in Graphics, Animation & Gaming
This degree is more similar to the first one, with an additional inclusion. This means that, along with animation and gaming, you will also get to learn graphics. Technically speaking, graphics are the core concept of animation. Hence, the first degree also has graphics, but in this one, you will be getting more in-depth. This would enable you to understand the mechanics of gaming better, and not just animation.
Courses in Gaming for Masters
Now that we have covered the courses for bachelors, we will be getting into the masters courses.
M.Sc. Computer Graphics and Game Technology
If you are going in for this course, then you will be getting into the technicalities of gaming technologies even more. By the time you complete this course, you will have in-depth and overall knowledge of gaming technology. Also, as you will be getting into graphics too, you will know the basics of animation. All of this will enable you to easily curate your game, and you will have a whole idea of what it would require you to take a basic game to something that can immediately become popular.
M.F.A in Game Design
This degree, a Master's in Fine Arts in Game Design, will teach you how to keep the whole design appropriate and susceptible historically, culturally, and more relevant. Those who have to work on the animation or the graphics sometimes might forget about details that might count, or they might not always be factually correct. If you have completed this course, you will be working solely on the setup of the game, and nothing much else.
M.A. in Interactive Design and Game Development
This is quite similar to game design, but gets a bit more technical. Interactive Design means that one has to keep track of the interactive development of the game. For example, you will be overlooking the parts where the users have to interact with the game. This is quite an important aspect of the game. If the interactive design is not interesting enough, then gamers will not want to play this game at all. As for gaming development, you will get deeper into the backend portion of the game. Hence, this course will make you an expert on the backend of a game, right before it gets into release mode.
M.Sc. in Multimedia and Animation
This is the higher-level degree for animation and gaming at the BSc level. The course will help you to get into the overall necessities of gaming and animation. By learning more about animation, you will be able to design games better, and on the other hand, multimedia will help you work on the sound technology of the games too. Hence, you are becoming an expert in the overall design of the game.
Integrated M.Sc. in Multimedia & Animation with Game Art & Design
This is a whole package course. Not only will you learn about multimedia and animation, but you will also become an expert in game art and design. Having this 360 knowledge will help you get into any good company easily as you will be able to assist in multiple departments.
